SECTION 6.
[22418]
No. 1.
India Office to Foreign Office.-(Received June 9.)
THE Under-Secretary of State for India presents his compliments to the Under- Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, and, by direction of the Earl of Crewe, forwards herewith, for the information of the Secretary of State, copy of two telegrams to the Viceroy, dated the 2nd and 3rd June, 1911, regarding the violation by the Chinese of the Burmah froutier.
India Office, June 8, 1911.
Enclosure 1 in No. 1.
The Earl of Crewe to Government of India.

India Office, June 2, 1911, PLEASE refer to your telegram dated the 1st instant as to Chinese violation of Burmah frontier. Interminable tu quoques will be the only result of protest at Peking, to which we accordingly are averse. If possible, the incident should be treated locally by Chinese intruders being ejected. I suggest that, if it is not possible to overtake and drive them out, they should be arrested and escorted to nearest point of frontier, if they return to Mangkyi. Protest at Peking our only resource (though it is sure to be ineffective) if party succeeds in returning unintercepted to China.
(Telegraphic.) P.
Enclosure 2 in No. 1.
The Earl of Creme to Government of India.
India Office, June 3, 1911. MY telegram dated the 2nd June regarding Burmah-China frontier should be repeated to His Majesty's Minister at Peking.
